ESET Smart Security 9 was named Top Rated in the AV-Comparatives Summary Report 2015, receiving six Advanced+ ratings from the independent testing organization.

AV-Comparatives, an independent anti-malware testing organization, today publishes its annual Summary Report 2015 summarizing its tests and providing a market-wide overview of security products.


ESET Smart Security 9 received six Advanced+ awards in 2015, won a Silver Award in the False Positives category and a Bronze in Proactive Protection. ESET products, along with five from other vendors, were awarded AV-Comparatives’ Top Rated badge.

Parents Can Help Their Children Explore Online Safely

Having a tool to manage what their children do with their tablets and smartphones is important for parents. A survey commissioned by ESET showed that 88% of parents are worried about what their children can access online. In that survey, 81% of parents said that they were troubled by the idea of their child visiting inappropriate web pages; 71% mentioned their children forwarding personal details to strangers; while 61% highlighted excessive amounts of time spent on devices. 

Despite parents’ fears, only few of them have installed a parental control app to help manage their children’s online experiences, the survey revealed.  

Children are increasingly moving from PCs to mobile devices in order to access the internet. Statistics show that Facebook alone has 1 billion active users a month connecting via mobile devices.  And with children, the dominant mobile platform is Android. Gartner forecasts that there will be 1.6 billion Android devices worldwide in 2017 and they are attractive for children due to their lower cost in comparison with other products.

ESET Scores 100% for Second Straight Year in AV-Test Self-Protection Survey

In the latest AV-Test Self-Protection for Antivirus Software test ESET has repeated its success from last year and scored 100% with ESET Smart Security, being the only solution in its category to reach that score for a second time. 

Most of the malware now targets the IT security solution in order to disable it. Using self-protection technologies DEP (Data Execution Prevention) and ASLR (Address Space Layout Randomization) as a supporting measure reduces the risk and makes the solution more secure. 

In the key test of the self-defense capabilities of IT security software, AV-Test examined whether these protection technologies were implemented in connection with user-mode PE (portable executable) files for 32- and 64-bit solutions. In addition, the valid certificate signature of files was tested, too.

AV-Test reviewed 21 consumer security suites and 10 corporate security solutions to see if DEP and ASLR, which are freely available protection mechanisms, being used in the program code. 

“Out of the consumer solutions tested with DEP and ASLR, only ESET recorded 100% protection for the second time. Also in terms of digitally signed files, ESET, Symantec and McAfee did a good job,” said Andreas Marx, CEO at AV-TEST GmbH.

ESET Earns the Gold Award for Anti-Phishing Protection from AV-Comparatives

ESET, the global leader in proactive digital protection with a record 10 years of consecutive VB100 awards for its ESET NOD32 technology, has earned the „Gold Award“ for anti-phishing protection from AV-Comparatives, an independent testing authority – as reported in their annual report.

“Phishing websites attempt to steal money from their victims without making any changes to the computer or device being used to access them. A security product that warns of known/suspected phishing sites can protect the user from fraud,”

ESET Go Explore Dropion Reaches Stratosphere in Unique Social Gaming Experiment

Prague, Czech Republic – ESET®, the global leader in proactive digital protection with a record 10 years of consecutive VB100 awards for its ESET NOD32® technology, has launched (together with its partners) a gondola called Dropion into the stratosphere. For this unique social gaming experiment dubbed Stratocaching, ESET partnered with a group of young technology enthusiasts from Czech “No Rocket Science” and Technet.cz.  

In all, more than 200-thousand online viewers and 13-thousand players watched in real-time as the Dropion soared to the stratosphere, releasing a dozen GPS-tracked seeds and landing safely in a village 50 kilometers from Prague, Czech Republic. Thousands of people searched for these seeds from near-space with the help of their smartphones in this world premiere of Stratocaching – a geocaching game with a space twist, as reported by Technet.cz, a respected and most visited Czech technology news portal.

“Exploring is an activity that enriches every individual. It allows us to create, relax and get inspired by new ideas. ESET was proud to be the main partner of the Stratocaching experiment and our team has great respect for the talent and enthusiasm of its organizers. Stratocaching was the first of its kind gaming experiment in the world, launched in a country where geocaching is quite popular (Czech Republic ranks 4th globally based on Geocaching.com). Technet.cz highlighted the success of this gaming experiment with elements of science as follows: “This experiment also introduced some aspects of near-space physics, meteorology and technology, and for the enthused fans put space literally within grasp.” 

In addition, Lupa.cz, a Czech news portal, has honored the Stratocaching project and its main partner ESET, as the best Internet Project in Czech Republic. It received the Crystal Magnifying Glass 2013 Award in its annual Special Award Category.
