Conducting effective nail training courses with IPEVO Doc Cam

RE:NEW Beauty has been providing high-quality nail gels and a full suite of training to nail professionals in the UK for 23 years. Since their training courses rely heavily on hands-on demonstrations and up-close observations, more often than not, this creates challenges for both the trainers and the learners. As Richard Lipsitz, Director at RE:NEW Beauty explained:

“People had to crowd around for demonstrations and they were unable to see the demonstrations from their desks.”

This is what led RE:NEW Beauty to start exploring effective solutions to teach nail painting techniques, and they came across IPEVO document cameras. IPEVO doc cams, with their play and plug design, and easy to use nature, allow RE:NEW Beauty to effortlessly integrate them into their training courses.

“We use IPEVO document cameras in our primary training center to allow students to see the nail work being done by the educator whilst they are demonstrating various techniques.”

With IPEVO document cameras, trainers can now showcase nail painting techniques on a big screen, while enabling learners to participate and interact with the training contents from their seats, making the teaching and learning process a seamless experience.

With an IPEVO doc cams, any training contents can be shown on a big screen in real-time.

Also, by using the adjustable arms and magnifying feature of IPEVO document cameras, nail trainers can capture any contents of interest, such as the ingredient label of nail gels, brushing techniques, or close-up views of their nail creation.

When asked what makes RE:NEW beauty choose IPEVO over the other solutions, the ability to display materials in real-time with great clarity is the clear reason. As shared by Richard:

“The quality of the image and ease of use makes [IPEVO doc cam] stand out.”

IPEVO document cameras connect directly to TV or computer – allowing a quick and easy setup.

Additionally, when discussing the greatest benefit IPEVO document cameras bring to RE:NEW beauty, Richard believes that it is all about compatibility, and how the doc cams can be fitted into their training environments easily:

“IPEVO document cameras allows for a slick educational setup to be easily integrated into all of our educational settings or pop-up training locations.”

This allows their nail trainers to focus entirely on delivering high quality training, while ensuring the best practices are shared within the organization – cultivating hundreds of beauty experts across the UK.

Delivering a trusted digital forensic solution integrated with IPEVO Document Cameras

Founded in 1984, MSAB is a global leader in digital forensic technology for mobile device examination. Today, MSAB’s technology is exclusively used by Law Enforcement, Military, Government Agencies, and Forensic Laboratories in over 100 democratic countries to investigate crime, gather intelligence, investigate fraud and fight corruption.

MSAB’s sole focus is on delivering a trusted digital forensic solution with supporting professional services in order to ensure reliable forensic evidence. This is one of the reasons why MSAB integrated IPEVO document cameras into their flagship XRY Camera solution from over 6 years ago. With the integrated solution, authorized investigators can quickly and effectively retrieve data from mobile phones.

When asked about how the integration works, Mike Dickinson, Chief Business Development Officer at MSAB, explains:

“We selected IPEVO cameras to provide digital forensic supporting evidence of examinations. Typically, our customers use the IPEVO camera to record and photograph mobile devices that digital forensic specialists are examining as part of a serious criminal enquiry. The evidence produced must be of high quality and trusted to be relied upon in a court of law.”

Currently, over 75% of the solution users are law enforcement operatives or supporting digital forensic specialists.

Mike then shares with us the user situation before IPEVO document cameras were integrated:

“Users had to rely on taking their own photographs as separate exhibits and were unable to include the evidence within our secure forensic file container to ensure complete chain of custody of the evidence.”

Thanks to IPEVO document cameras, they are now able to secure and preserve the integrity of the digital evidence collected.

Mike Dickinson, Chief Business Development Officer at MSAB.

IPEVO document camera integrated into MSAB’s XRY Camera solution.
Since the integration of IPEVO document cameras, MSAB has seen increasing sales and adoption of the solution worldwide:

“We have seen widespread adoption of the camera technology across our customer base as supporting evidence and to assist in the documentation of ISO 17025 Quality Assurance for digital forensic labs. We know it is very popular.”

Last but not least, when asked what makes MSAB choose IPEVO document cameras over other brands, Mike says:

“We evaluated various off-the-shelf digital camera technology solutions; we selected IPEVO for a winning combination of affordability, reliability and quality.”

Embroidery and textile art with IPEVO Document Cameras

Kathy Andrews is a textile artist and embroidery teacher who works with students of all abilities, teaching them the techniques and the joy of hand embroidery.

With her enthusiasm for stitching and encouraging classroom atmosphere, she is a sought-after teacher of embroidery. Her teaching has included online courses, Embroidery Guild of America local, regional, and national seminars.

“One of the things I like most is that the IPEVO camera shows what I see when I’m embroidering. This means that the student can see from the same perspective that I do as I work. It’s as if they were sitting beside me as I work.”

She is a member of the Cedar Valley Chapter of the EGA, the EGA Fiber Forum, Textile Society of America, the Minnesota Needleworkers Guild, the Stan Hywet Needleworkers Guild and the Columbia Fiber Arts Guild.

In addition to teaching, she is available for lectures. “Elizabethan Embroidery And The Trevelyon Miscellany Of 1608” and “The Unbroken Thread Sampler Collection: The Samplers And Their Makers”

“My IPEVO camera is part of my embroidery setup. It’s always right beside me when I’m stitching, so it’s ready to use when I need it. As I work, the camera is right there to take both still photos of my progress and short videos for instructional purposes later.
When I am creating a new piece of embroidery, I use the IPEVO camera to document my design process. This includes taking photos of stitches and color choices that I am experimenting with as I work.”

“The other invaluable use of the document camera is when I am collaborating with someone on a design. Because I can be connected to both the IPEVO document camera and Zoom at the same time, I’m able to talk face to face with a collaborator and show them the piece we’re working on in real time. It’s almost as good as being in the same room together and, best of all, I can collaborate with other embroiderers from all over.”

Before acquiring IPEVO doc cameras for her work, Kathy says she used to take photographs of her progress using a cell phone camera. No matter how hard she tried, the photos would sometimes come out blurry. She also needed to remember to upload them onto her computer and put them in the correct files, resulting in many of her photos getting lost among other personal pictures.

Taking a close-up photo or video with her cell phone was problematic, she needed to ask her husband to help and never got the close up she needed because their bodies would get in the way.

“The IPEVO camera’s zoom function is fabulous, taking close-up pictures is no longer an issue. It sits beside me, and I can snap a photo whenever I need to or take a video without any additional set up. The camera is sturdy and has a heavy base which means there’s no wobble when I want a close up of my work.”

When Kathy taught embroidery at seminars and classes, the usual way students would watch her demonstrations was to gather around her chair, lean over and hope they could see her work. Naturally, this didn’t always work very well, especially with any student who was in a wheelchair or needed a walker to get around. Especially now, with Covid, it’s just not safe to get so close together anymore.

She can now use her IPEVO document camera “live” connected to a projector to demonstrate. She can also take a video at home and play the video as a demonstration while she narrates in real time.

“Reviewing the process of doing embroidery wasn’t possible when doing demonstrations live; once you’ve embroidered an area you can’t really take it out and do it again to demonstrate it again. My students can request to watch the same video over and over in class as I explain it and they can ask questions.”

About recommending IPEVO to other professionals like herself, she states:

“Absolutely. If you are serious about chronicling the progress of your work, the IPEVO camera is a great addition to your tool kit. Being able to take steady, close-ups of your embroidery is so simple and the quality of the image is outstanding. The IPEVO Visualizer Software is very good and super easy to use; it didn’t take me very long to feel confident using it.
The camera is perfect for teaching embroidery; it’s safer because the students can stay seated and at least 6 feet apart. No one has to move to see the demonstration, which makes it much easier for any students with mobility challenges. Additionally – and most importantly – when the image is projected on a screen, it is many times larger. It’s a true close up.”

Integrating IPEVO Document Cameras into Hybrid Teaching Solution

The pandemic has altered many aspects of our lives, and that includes how and where we work. Work from home became the normalized way of living, and teachers were forced to transition to online teaching overnight. Founded in the wake of Germany’s first COVID-19 lockdown, DIGI@Education is a German company that trains teachers on how to effectively do so as schools close their doors.

Having worked closely with teachers, they came to know the pain points, needs, and issues of online, and later, hybrid teaching that teachers faced in the changing education landscape. So, by utilizing their know-how experience accumulated during their previous career as healthcare system consultants, they developed an “All-in-one-Studio” solution — DIGI@mobile — that enables teachers to turn physical lessons into hybrid lessons with just a push of a button.

As visualization forms the core of a hybrid lesson, the ability to present oneself and any content interactively and clearly is highly sought after by many teachers. And this is where DIGI@Education found a real need to integrate a document camera into their solution:

“Document cameras are very important tools for hybrid teaching.”

In view of this, they gave IPEVO document cameras a try. Performing beyond their expectations, they found the integration process extremely easy and the image quality extraordinary:

“IPEVO document cameras can be directly mounted to our DIGI@mobile solution and provide perfect quality images directly from the classroom.”

Before deciding on IPEVO, they experimented with a few other brands of document cameras, but the results were not satisfactory:

“During early testing of our solution, we had problems with connectivity and mounting the document cameras.”

However, with the multi-jointed stand, swiveling head, and plug-and-play design of IPEVO document cameras, everything falls perfectly into place:

“With IPEVO’s product, especially with the swiveling head, we could solve these problems easily. They just work and integrate perfectly with our product (DIGI@mobile).”

When asked what makes IPEVO document cameras stand out, they said:

“High image and product quality, plus the swiveling head.”

In fact, many users of DiGI@mobile are very pleased with the integration:

“Our customers are very happy with the quality, and we get the feedback that it (IPEVO document camera) is a very user-friendly application.”

Summarizing the role of IPEVO document cameras in DIGI@Education’s hybrid teaching solution:

“Hybrid teaching and hybrid meetings are hard enough as it is. Making the hardware work easily, simply, and dependably is our effort to your (schools’ and teachers’) success. IPEVO products help us make it happen.”

Creating a virtual campus and online makerspaces with Document Cameras

Chris Colley has been a teacher for over 14 years at the secondary and elementary levels and has now morphed into a pedagogical consultant over the last 7 plus years. He is presently a consultant on education in all the Anglo school boards of Quebec.

“I have been in education for the better part of two decades, and I have always pushed the boundaries with integrating technology. Perhaps one of my favorite go-to classroom items has always been my IPEVO doc cam.”

Student engagement is his jive. He believes that learning only happens when mistakes happen, and to make mistakes, students need to be actively involved in their learning process. He loves to support educators in creating environments where students are at the helm of their learning.

This is what he had to say about his first experience with IPEVO solutions.

“I was first introduced to IPEVO when I was teaching with a Smartboard. It amplified my teaching when I could throw just about anything onto the interactive whiteboard with my IPEVO. It brought the real world into my teaching in the most simple, yet powerful ways. Not only could I bring in a bunch of flowers from my garden into class to classify and discuss with my students, but reading stories to my students was more engaging, and they loved to show their flowers from their gardens too.”

Chris Colley is a Pedagogical Consultant at LEARN Quebec in Math, Science, Technology, STEAM, Early Childhood, and makerspaces.

LEARN (Leading English Education and Resource Network) is a non-profit educational organization with a mandate to serve the English-speaking community of Quebec. LEARN accomplishes this by offering a wide range of resources and services at no charge.

“During the pandemic, I used my IPEVO daily. I would use it for makerspace and designing prototypes with my students. Without it, I would have been lost. It allowed the student to see what I was doing in real-time. The picture was always perfect! The students enjoyed our making moments together more than anything else. Who says making can’t happen online?!?

I also used my IPEVO when I was doing online “Micro:bit” classes. It was essential when I was showing students how to attach peripherals, code, and introducing new things. Without that visual that the IPEVO document camera gave, I would have never been able to do “Micro:bits” online.”

The services and resources provided by LEARN Quebec include elementary and secondary level teaching tools and content; professional learning; community, school, and parental support; as well as a full range of online services through the LEARN Virtual Campus.

The Virtual Campus includes online classes for students across the province, personalized tutorials, summer school, as well as customized programs that are developed in concert with schools and school boards.

How AI Technology Complements Document Cameras in Education

The traditional idea of education used to be limited to the four walls of the classrooms. Employees and students alike were in many cases compulsorily required to be physically present. The possibilities of technology in enhancing education were not fully exploited.

Everything changed after the pandemic hit the world. Almost every sector had to find a way to survive amidst the lockdown. Learning had to continue without the possibility of spreading the virus. A lot of measures were put in place. Academic institutions engaged students virtually as an alternative to physical classes. Students were given access to recordings and video presentations of educational materials in their various remote locations.

As the pandemic slows down, it is undoubted that the gains of technology in enhancing education are enormous. For this reason, many have adopted a hybrid model of teaching and work as the new norm.

DOCUMENT CAMERAS, A MUST-HAVE.

Sometimes called Visualizers or Doc Cams, these are high-resolution cameras used to magnify or project images of objects, paper notes are usually mounted on the arm to facilitate their placement over a page.

Document cameras are designed to display a three or two-dimensional object while the audience watches. The camera takes a picture and produces a live image using a monitor or a projector. Besides education, it has also been utilized to present materials in conferences, evidence in courtrooms, and even medical applications.

As the world changed its dynamic to a remote environment, Document Cameras have helped maintain an effective learning experience without regard to physical boundaries. Doc Cams have had to evolve to include more features that can improve remote learning regardless of the user’s surroundings, such as a microphone or a built-in LED light.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, A GREAT ADDITION TO A DOC CAM.

The main feature of artificial intelligence is a machine’s ability to mimic human actions and rationalize and exhibit traits associated with the human mind, such as learning and problem-solving. We can take the advantage of AI to enhance existing features, for example, the Microphone of a Document Camera.

Artificial intelligence technology in microphones is concerned with the suppression of background noise and enhancement of voice. The human brain can identify whether sounds come from a voice discussion between people or noise in the background. The hearing system can also focus on vocal sounds and ignore surrounding noises to make the conversation intelligible and clear.

Standard noise suppression technologies need to guess what type of emitted noise they need to suppress, resulting in random and poor efficiency. They rely on learning signals compiled manually by engineers. That means only noise that is stable and regular is removed.

IPEVO, a leading Document Camera provider, has introduced V4K PRO, the World’s first Doc Cam with an AI-Enhanced Microphone that is built to extract vocal sounds from a noisy environment and let you enjoy an apparent crystal conversation or lecture.

How?

It does this by acting as a filter to eliminate noise while still maintaining the natural sound of the voice. The artificial intelligence in V4K PRO has been trained with over 500 million data to effectively distinguish and preserve the human voice exactly as it would sound in a face-to-face conversation.

HOW CAN IT HELP SUPPORT EDUCATION

AI-powered devices like the IPEVO V4K PRO can help increase the efficiency of education workers in the following ways;

  • Achieve virtual courses and presentations with sounds just as flawless as they should naturally be. Even if you are in a noisy or dim-lit environment, teachers can carry on with their lessons without interruptions.
  • Make high-quality pre-recordings of your lessons or materials to share with your students.
  • Set up hybrid classrooms where remote students can be just as engaged as your in-class students.
  • Integrate your Document Camera with most existing software and hardware in your class set-up. For example, in-class projectors, computers, and 3rd party video conferencing apps.

It is evident from the pandemic experiences that education transcends the four walls of a physical classroom. To fully explore the gains of technology in education, consider adding a powerful, yet affordable, tool like the IPEVO V4K PRO. It is essential to delivering quality education and adapting to the ‘New Normal’, which features a blend of distant, in-person, and hybrid models of collaboration across institutions.

Reimagining Learning through the power of hands-on STEAM

Skyrock is an experiential learning space that teaches STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) through practice, and stimulates genius and imagination through personal creation.

With the rapid digitalization of society as a whole, it has become increasingly important for students to be readily equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in this digitalized society.

Zack Hwang, a former power engineer and now one of the headteachers at Skyrock, was able to successfully incorporate IPEVO products into their curriculum, both online and in-person. The concept of online classes has existed for years but it wasn’t until recently did it really establish itself as a legitimate and effective form of education in the eyes of the general public. With IPEVO products, Zack was able to seamlessly replicate the fine and intricate details of his classes to students all across the country.

“The cameras were helpful in teaching live assembly classes where the teacher wants to switch from face to hands recordings.”

Before integrating IPEVO products, Skyrock was struggling to maintain consistent quality in their videos:

“We were trying to record multiple assembly videos by many teachers. Our challenge was trying to get them to be consistent in quality and framing. “

Previously, Skyrock was using smartphones situated on phone holders to record their videos:

“The most significant change we noticed after using the IPEVO cameras was that the footage doesn’t shake or jiggle as much compared to before”

After experiencing much success with IPEVO cameras in their STEAM classes, Zack shares his thoughts on the potential application of the IPEVO cameras in other fields:

“I believe they would be good for classes that do live lessons that require different angles and cameras. Like cooking classes, art, and crafts, etc.”

In their mission to promote STEAM education, Zack shared the idea behind how Skyrock came to be:

“We have seen how all of the textbooks and tests are killing the curiosity in our kids. It’s serious work without play, and hard work that isn’t fun. We believe that cultivating both technical and creative confidence in kids is the best thing we can do to make kids fall in love with learning again. And for this, we think that creative projects that engage kids in SERIOUS PLAY and HARD FUN is the perfect tool!”

Top 5 Ways to Use a Document Camera In a Classroom

After experiencing a turbulent year due to the pandemic, some schools an businesses look to start welcoming people back into buildings while others intend to stay put. Document cameras emerged as one of the most crucial tools throughout the past year and look to further solidify its importance going forward. The ability to integrate document cameras with various software and hardware is a major contributing factor to its widespread success and popularity.

Below are 5 great uses you can give to document camera in a class or work setting:

Read and Annotate

Document cameras are the go-to tool when it comes to presenting materials. Effortlessly switching between materials and making live annotations results in a much smoother and time-efficient experience all around.

Record Lessons

With the steady increase in technology integration, educators all around the world are using document cameras to record lessons and tutorials. The small and simple yet powerful build of the document camera makes for a quick setup that requires minimal effort and space.

Document Scanning

Scanning stacks of paper may seem like a daunting and time-consuming task but document cameras are able to speed the process up significantly. Once the device is set up in place, scanning documents becomes as simple as sliding it under the lens and clicking a button.

Live Demonstrations

There are multiple instances where crowding around something to catch a glimpse simply doesn’t cut it. Intricate gadgets with small parts, chemical reactions, dissections, and art techniques benefit the most from it. Projecting the image on a large screen ensures that everyone is able to view the demonstration at an optimal angle.

Distance Viewing

For low-vision students, it can often be extremely difficult to follow along with the rest of the class. Simply have the set up the document camera, pointed towards the board, and zoom-in as needed. This is especially useful as the student may also take snapshots throughout the class if necessary.

Though document cameras have been around for quite a while, it wasn’t until the past year did it really pick up mainstream attention. After people started implementing document cameras into their daily routine, they quickly realized just how simple and powerful these tools were whilst providing much-needed versatility. The pandemic may be slowly coming to an end, but document cameras are here to stay.

Employing Technology to aid Teaching and Learning Process

Dr. Steven is a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Rheumatology at the University of Calgary. He trained at the University of Western Ontario and the University of Calgary and has been a medical educator for four years. He is currently in charge of the resident trainee assessment program and continuing professional development program in the Division of Rheumatology with the Department of Medicine at the University of Calgary.

Due to the nature of Steven’s job, he used the IPEVO Document Camera to facilitate in-person teaching of the Anatomy course. Before Steven’s contact with IPEVO products, the class was traditionally divided into small in-person group sessions and often employed a personally written test to assess student’s performance.

With the IPEVO VZ-R, Steven has been able to put diagrams onto a whiteboard using a projector. The camera permits students to label structures while their other peers can watch and share their opinions. The result of this learning process is access to better information, speed, learning, and retention. Students can also think their ideas through and teach their fellow peers too.

The current global pandemic increased the need for devices like the IPEVO VZ-R. In Steven’s words:

“I can only imagine how teaching would have been and the difficulty with student’s assimilation, if not for this product. I have had to re-imagine how physical examination techniques are demonstrated.”

With creating a maximum impact while teaching anatomy physically now being an impossibility, the document camera has become an integral part of virtual physical exam teaching. This is because, with it, Steven demonstrates hand and finger positions in real-time with his VZ-R.

This is in addition to other cameras capturing more extensive maneuvers or displaying educational content simultaneously. After discovering that with the Document Camera, he could use real-time physical anatomy models to illustrate the mechanism of an exam technique. Steven compared it with his previous methods and said:

“If I were to rely solely on static images in a PowerPoint presentation, the process would be less organic. I couldn’t respond to learner questions in real-time by manipulating a model in the document camera. Worse yet, a pre-recorded video would technically present the same material but has no learner engagement or opportunity for questions.”

Steven thinks that there is no point in comparing a document camera and a purpose-built streaming studio in either cost or ease of use. With much less cost and technical training to implement a document camera versus a proper studio with several expensive cameras, audio equipment, and monitors and mixers, he believes that the document camera makes a great addition to a home or office teaching setting.

After using the VZ-R, Steven thinks that the investment is worthwhile. The pandemic restrictions have further increased the need for virtual learning activities, and to him, there is much to be gained from some level of remote learning and coping with the new normal. The IPEVO VZ-R is his recommended product to all individuals and institutions looking to teach with ease without feeling a loss of connection between the learners and the teachers.

Bringing online visual facilitation courses up-close and in-person with visual communication tools

Based in Germany and having trainers across the world, Bikablo is a pioneer laboratory and training center for hand-drawn visualization and visual thinking, learning, and collaboration.

As an ever-growing number of people are using visualization to secure common knowledge, explain strategies and processes, connect specialists, and develop smarter products, Bikablo, with its unique visual training programs, is helping about 6,500 people annually (numbers are pre-covid) to achieve this.

Visualization forms the core of Bikablo’s training programs, so it was second nature to its founder, Martin Haussmann, who used an IPEVO document camera for his video calls to capture, visualize, and share content back in 2016. And it was at this point in time that another member of Bikablo, Frank Wesseler, was introduced to IPEVO.

Frank, who joined the Bikablo family as a trainer for visual facilitation and now the contact person for Bikablo’s global training program, shares his initial thoughts of using the IPEVO document camera:

“I immediately loved it and purchased my own. In the beginning, I used it in the same way, and we have also been using it during presentations in classroom settings to present just using pieces of paper that we moved back and forth in order to bring specific contents across. The audience loved it as it was so different from the usual PowerPoint.”

And until today, Frank is still an avid IPEVO user:

“Today, I cannot imagine working without it. I use it during each and every virtual workshop for developing content together with the audience on paper, using visual facilitation.”

Before acquiring the IPEVO document camera, Frank was either using a webcam or DSLR camera for his work, and he explains the difficulties he encountered when he needs to zoom in to show details, and the convenience that the IPEVO document camera brings:

“It was very difficult to use hand-drawn visuals in virtual settings. We used flipcharts and moved the camera closer to the flip, yet it is a lot easier now with the document camera.

When we teach people how to visualize in virtual workshops, the close-ups we can get with the IPEVO products are very supportive. Being able to zoom into the details (without having to move the camera) is a feature that our participants benefit from a lot.”

Thanks to the IPEVO document camera, not only can Frank enjoy more versatility but also get more in-person with the participants of his virtual workshops:

“I can now use a camera angle that I was not able to use before and am more versatile in my virtual work. I am now able to bring more of the hands-on analogue Bikablo style and spirit and the attitude of simplicity and personal closeness to virtual work.”

In addition, the quality, build, and innovative design of IPEVO products are what appeal strongly to Frank. When asked whether or not he would recommend IPEVO products to other visual trainers or practitioners, Frank answers:

“Yes! I really like the quality. The camera is very sturdy. Today, I own several IPEVO products and each one of them seems like it is built to last. I also really like the innovative thinking, e.g, with the Mirror-Cam and the simple solutions to seemingly difficult situations. A colleague of mine has been using one of the IPEVO cameras for ages and it still works like a charm.”
