CyberLink Introduces FaceMe® Health to Detect Masks, Verify Identity and Measure Temperature for Pandemic Control

New tailored solution for commercial retailers, hospitality operators, schools, hospitals, airports and more to help prevent the spread of COVID-19

TAIPEI, TAIWAN – August 18, 2020 – CyberLink Corp. (5203.TW), a pioneer in artificial intelligence and digital imaging technologies, today announced the FaceMe® Health software solution, a new service offering integrating mask detection, authentication and temperature measurement into one platform. The solution is designed for a range of facilities, many of which are considered to be on the frontline in the battle against COVID-19, including commercial buildings and factory plants, retail storefronts, restaurants and hotels, as well as institutional locations such as hospitals, schools and airports.

With many facilities reopening, often they require individuals to pass through monitored checkpoints prior to entry to ensure they are wearing a mask and not running a fever. FaceMe® Health automates what is typically a cumbersome process, seamlessly screening individuals to verify their identity, if they are wearing a mask and if they potentially have a fever. If an individual is not wearing a mask, not wearing a mask properly, or has an unusually high temperature, the system automatically notifies key personnel for further investigation—creating a cost-effective, non-intrusive solution for more efficient health screening as the globe battles to contain the coronavirus.

Studies have shown that mask wearing substantially reduces the transmission of COVID-19, but face masks render most identity verification systems useless. FaceMe® Health is designed to perform identity authentication with up to 95 percent accuracy, even when a face is obscured with a mask and regardless of mask type, angle or demographic. CyberLink’s new screening tool is also designed to identify false positives, such as inappropriately wearing a mask or trying to “fool” the system by covering one’s nose and mouth with their hand.

“COVID-19 has altered how we live and work, with mask wearing becoming perhaps the new common denominator experience shared by all as an effective means to prevent the spread of the virus,” said Dr. Jau Huang, CEO of CyberLink. “With our expertise in artificial intelligence, we have pooled our resources to create FaceMe® Health to help businesses and other organizations plan their reopening strategy with a more efficient means to conduct health screening and contactless authentication – for both now and post-pandemic.”

FaceMe® Health is a highly cost-affordable software solution flexible in deployment, capable of running on entry-level personal computers equipped with an 8th generation Intel Core i3 processor as a minimum. All that is required beyond the computer are USB-plugin webcams and thermal cameras to perform the screening. FaceMe® Health also supports select models of IP cameras equipped with thermal sensors to perform temperature measurement, which are connected to FaceMe® Health through the IP network.
